I’m so glad that there will have two electric busses. I live in Essex Junction and I take the bus because I have Epilepsy.

There are lots of other new ways in which the bus CCTA can be improve.

The most simple thing to do is make it harder to park downtown, increase the cost of gas, and then make it free to use the bus. It’s hard to pay for your bus ride anyway, because a ride is $1.75 and you need to keep change. Right now, many of the people who take the bus work for low paying jobs and can’t afford a car. Those $1.75 would mean a lot. And warm winter gear is expensive, too, helping people get new clothes would mean a lot.

People should know how hard it is to depend on the bus. The weather isn’t always good, it takes a lot longer then driving, it’s hard to carry all your groceries home. My walk takes 20 minutes, if I cross over the train tracks. It’s longer if I walk by the sidewalk.

It would be great to connect people who can’t drive to others, and set up a way to get them their groceries. Many people depend on laundromats too, and it’s also hard to get that home.

I have never seen more then 2 people on the Orange line, and sometimes it’s just me. The blue has more people, but at certain times it only has a couple people, so a smaller bus would save money.

Finally, I know that a lot of people won’t take the bus because they are afraid to, and this is not without reason. There are some people who can’t drive because they are alcoholics or heroin addicts and have lost their license. I have seen empty liquor bottles on the ground on the bus stop. I’ve sat near people who are coming home from a methadone clinic. People should know that they need to keep their eyes open when taking the bus. Don’t let children take the bus without an adult. We can’t ignore this.

I think we can really improve our bus system, we just need to be creative.
