Introductions and Welcome

Introduction and Welcome

Jonathan Hauze is the Pastor of the Norwich Congregational Church and welcomes the Vermont Interfaith Power and Light’s 2022 Spring conference attendees. His daughter was on childcare patrol upstairs while the event was going on.  Nancy Wright, Pastor at the Ascension Lutheran Church in South Burlington spoke about Norwich and how this was the home of the Western Abenaki people for thousands of years. Harris Webster, member of the board of the Vermont Interfaith Power and Light, shares his thoughts on Donella Meadows’ book, Limits to Growth and the profound influence it had on his life’s work. He shared this quote from the book…

Growth is one of the stupidest purposes ever invented by any culture; we’ve got to have an enough. We should always ask ‘growth of what, and why, and for whom, and who pays the cost, and how long can it last, and what’s the cost to the planet, and how much is enough?’” Donella Meadows

Ron McGarvey, President of Vermont Interfaith Power and Light welcomes the audience and thanks the sponsors and supporters, especially Betsy Hardy and Donna Roberts for all the work putting the event together. Finally, Richard Butz, a VTIPL Board Member shared an award.
